                       net.sourceforge.jpcap README

  'jpcap'

jpcap is a set of Java classes which provide a system-independent
    interface for network packet capture.

jpcap utilizes libpcap, a widely deployed shared-library for capturing
    user-level packets.

jpcap consists of a small shared-library which wraps libpcap plus a
collection of Java classes. The shared-library component provides event
hooks, communication and data conversion between a running Java VM and
libpcap. The Java class components provide a powerful yet abstract
interface for capturing network packets in any Java application.

PacketCapture is the central class in this package used for packet
    capture operations.

  jpcap.capture

The shared-library and core networking and capture classes are found in
    net.sourceforge.jpcap.capture.

In this directory is a simple command-line application which captures a
    packet and exits.

The test stub can be invoked using the command:

      java net.sourceforge.jpcap.capture.CaptureTest

  jpcap.client -- Sample Client Applications - CaptureTool

CaptureTool is a text-based console packet filtering application
which uses jpcap. The application can be used to manipulate
packet capture parameters, including filter expressions.

The tool and its console is intended to allow a fine-grain level of
control in packet capture and of viewing captured packets.

The tool can be invoked using the command:

        java net.sourceforge.pcap.client.CaptureTool
