ACE Team, 2001

Installation:
To install TDC Beta 0.9 simply place the
conjunction folder with its contents in your Quake 3 directory. Place the
TDC_run.bat file in your Quake 3 directory as well.
To play the
game you can:
-Execute the TDC_run.bat file.
-Or create a
shortcut to Quake 3 adding the following parameters: +set sv_pure 0 +set fs_game
conjunction
*Notes:
-The Dark Conjunction beta 0.9 WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY if launched from the Quake 3 mod menu. TDC MUST run with "sv_pure" set to "0", otherwise the game will fail to save and load your stats between levels. If you are recieving the following message at the beginning of a level: "Valid (without cheats) saved state not found", and the player starts with 10 health, this means you are not running with "+set sv_pure 0". Note that this message will also appear if you load a map with the /map command.
-TDC is meant to run under Quake 3 version 1.30.
Story:
Thousands of years ago, when the world was nothing like the one we know now, the universe was in equilibrium. Two opposite forces controlled the destiny of all mortal life. They were the keepers of all creation.
For some unknown reason, when this world was still young, both forces entered in a terrible conflict. The greatest battle of all times begun. Because of the mighty god’s confrontation, death struck every living being and life itself was almost annihilated from the universe.
During that great war, the eldest of the dark ones was Ilak. Ilak called upon all of his allies to battle on his side. However, the war was so fierce that not even the mightiest of the rulers of the universe could survive. The two forces that once controlled everything vanished. But Ajivatkar, one of the great gods of darkness, had not perished in the battle. He had foreseen the fate of his kind. Ajivatkar imprisoned himself in the depths of a mortal world in order to survive. That world is known by us as planet earth.
Among the survivors of the war, were the ilaken, who had been always loyal to the great Ilak. They quickly realized what Ajivatkar had done and built an underground temple to seal off the dark god so that no one could ever awaken him.
Centuries have passed and life has returned. The ilaken became the keepers of the temple and were never seen again. Their story is only a myth.
But today, history takes a new course. Flying aboard a B-29 you are unaware of the evil presence that awakens from it’s prison. The seal that imprisoned Ajivatkar has been broken. The Dark Conjunction is at hand.
The Dark Conjunction is a true Q3 Single-Player Total Conversion. TDC boosts real NPCs (non-playable-characters) instead of computer controlled bots. Unlike Quake 3, the levels are linear, with clear starting points and ending points.
The game's ambient is a fusion between fantasy and apocalyptic reality. The mod has a strong focus on the story, which unfolds as the player progresses through the game. As the mod continues to grow, more of the story will be revealed.
The menu is similar to the Quake 3 Arena menu. Some important notes about new options in the menu:
1) Saving and loading in the beta 1.0 is still not implemented. The Save/Load button from the main menu IS NOT FUNCTIONAL. The save and load buttons from the ingame menu are also not functional. If a player dies he will restart the level from the beginning.
2) From the system setup menu you can now enable/disable the following options from the Quake 3 config file:
- Compress textures (r_ext_compressed_textures in the Q3 config):
Set this to 0 to disable texture
compression support (slower, but better visuals). Texture compression can vastly
improve frame rates, although may cause some visual degradation in certain areas
of the game.
- Round images down (r_roundImagesDown in the Q3 config):
Set this to 0 to disable texture smoothing. This option smoothes and
rounds textures when they need to be resized producing slightly inferior
visuals.
*** With the "round images down" disabled we experienced significant improvement of texture quality in large textures of md3 models. (TDC has many textures larger than 256*256 applied to md3 monsters or objects. These particular textures were mostly affected by the change).
