.AT "PostScript" "Character Set"
.TL "PostScript Character Set and Symbols" "Standard Text Font Character Set"
The standard text font character set consists of alphanumerics,
punctuation and accent marks, brackets, and
other symbols to complement each type style.
Each standard text font offers a full set of
.sM ASCII
characters
and a variety of
.sM ASCII "" non-
special characters.
The more useful
.sM ASCII  "" non-
symbols have assigned
input names;
the remaining unnamed symbols are represented by character access codes.
.P
The
.sM ASCII
characters |, _, < and >, and the bullet (\(bu) symbol
are taken from the special Symbol font;
the standard text font versions are available by character access code.
In the case of the constant-width fonts
.cR CO , (
.cR CW ,
.cR CI ,
.cR CB ,
and
.cR CX ),
the
.sM ASCII
characters
.cR | ,
.cR _ ,
.cR <
and
.cR >
are taken from the respective font.
